Democratic Club of Vista October 2017 Meeting

Event Details

Our next general meeting will again be held at the Centro Comunitario Universidad Popular. This is the place where we held the debate at 1234 N Santa Fe Ave, Vista, CA 92083-3231. We on the board really like this place, and hopefully our members do as well.

Agenda Democratic Club of Vista October 2017

This is an important meeting for us. Not only do we have a few terrific guest speakers (Dave Meyers and Geneviéve Jones-Wright), we will also be voting to select our delegates to the pre-endorsement caucus. Plus, we might have our members folding a few informational pamphlets each while we listen to our speakers. (We can all walk and chew gum, right?)

I asked Sue what our speakers will be talking about and she said “law enforcement stuff”. LOL. Geneviéve Jones-Wright is running for San Diego County District Attorney, and Dave Meyers is running for sheriff. These are two very important jobs in the county. Both will be speaking, and we will allow time for some questions and answers.

The topics for discussion will include criminal justice reform, bail reform, de-escalation, opioids, cannabis and Hep A. Its all relevant to starting at the top of a law enforcement agency and replacing old outdated policing policy.

As we discussed at our September general meeting, our club will have four delegates for the pre-endorsement caucus for Region 18 which covers Assembly Districts 73, 74, 75 and 76. We get one delegate per every 20 club members in each Assembly District.  Based on our membership roster as of July 1st we only get 4 delegates, and all from AD-76.  We do have members in the AD-75, but not a multiple of 20.  Some of our members are also not Democrats, or not registered properly. So, they don’t count towards our membership numbers for delegate purposes. In fact, if you are not a registered Democrat you can not vote for the delegates. (Confused yet?)

These delegates will be chosen by the membership at our October meeting since the names must be submitted by November 2nd to the Party. Anyone who has a member of our club since July 1st or before, who lives in the 76th Assembly District and is a registered Democrat (and was when the roster was submitted in July) can volunteer to be a delegate. Note, you can only run as a delegate in ONE Democratic club. If we have more than four volunteers we will vote on the delegates.

The selected delegates will need to travel to San Juan Capistrano on January 27 or 28th to vote on which candidates should get the Democratic Party pre-endorsement. So, for instance, you could be voting to pre-endorse one of the three candidates for CD-49 (Applegate, Kerr or Levin).

For more information please read this: https://www.cadem.org/vote/body/CDP-2018-Endorsement-Potential-CCO-Rep-Memo.pdf

If you would like to be a delegate please contact Katsuyo Fukuyama katsuyo@cox.net. She will check your name against the list of people who are eligible to run.

As usual we will likely have a few candidates stop by to give their 3 minute speeches. If you are a candidate for office please let Sue know that you would like to speak before the meeting starts.

We look forward to having you all there!

Of course, there will also be a lot of lively discussions and exchanges of information about all of the events happening in the area. Please come and join us!
