What are the Democratic Party ADEMs? ADEM stands for Assembly District Election Meeting. These elections are held in each California Assembly District on appointed dates and locations in order to select Democratic State Central Committee (DSCC) delegates.

Seven “self-identified female” and seven “other than self-identified female” are elected to be Assembly District Delegates (ADDs) to represent the Assembly District they are registered in as a Democrat.

Delegates attend the annual Democrats Convention, network with other Democrats, elect Party officers, promote the California Democratic Party agenda, endorse candidates for statewide, legislative and congressional office, and vote to endorse resolutions and ballot measures all doing so while representing their constituency. Costs associated with being a delegate.

The costs can be significant if you need to pay for travel, rent a hotel room and pay for meals. The estimated annual convention cost is $1600 to $2000!

Why should we care who gets to be a delegate? Well, first off, it depends on where you stand politically. You should vote for delegate candidates that strongly support your positions because they will be working on party platforms and helping to select the candidates who get endorsed.
